Monica Francesca Blasi

Monica Francesca Blasi graduated in Physic, she has then achieved a PhD in Biophysics and a master in “Animal Conservation and Biodiversity: Protected Areas and Ecological Webs” with a thesis on the interaction between bottlenose dolphins and fishing in the Aeolian islands (2005; Università “La Sapienza” di Roma). She is now undertaking a second PhD in medicinal chemistry at the Università La Sapienza with a project on the study of the diet of the sea turtle Caretta caretta in the Tyrrhenian sea and the accumulation of environmental contaminants due to micro plastic ingestion. Her professional experience includes operational and management skills in conservation biology and ecology of marine environments (space use, movements, population dynamics, behavioural ecology, foraging behaviour, health status valuation). She is an expert in spatial analysis (ranges of distributions, ecological webs and corridors, models of use and selection of habitat, models of environmental suitability), she has a deep knowledge of different techniques of molecular biology, advance statistic, and bioinformatics acquired with specific courses. From 2000 to 2008, she has worked as a researcher in molecular biology projects and on the water quality at Dipartimento di Ambiente dell’Istituto Superiore di Sanità of Rome and in international cooperation activities on Protocollo Acqua e Salute in collaboration with L’OMS. In 2009 and 2010  she was the consultant at Divisione II - Protezione Flora e Fauna del Ministero dell’Ambiente e della Tutela del Territorio e del mare for activities focused on the conservation of land and marine fauna, and at Piano D’Azione for the conservation of sea turtle in Italy. In 2009 and 2010, she was a lecturer at Università "La Tuscia" of Viterbo with a course on “Methods of research and monitoring of marine vertebrates”. She is the coordinator and director of all the conservation projects on cetaceans and sea turtle in the Aeolian islands since 2004, nonetheless she is the supervisor of Honours dissertations, promotes training activities, eco-volunteering, and environmental education. In 2017 she won the TROFEO DEL MARE International Maritime Awards of Pozzallo. In 2018 she won the award DonnaAmbiente.
